What to expect

Forty-five minutes, and you leave knowing what is going on

The first visit is an assessment. You should be able to explain the problem to someone else by the time you leave.

We assess before we treat

History, then watching how you actually move. If something looks like it needs a scan or a GP rather than us, we say so on the first visit and tell you what to ask for.

You leave with a plan, in writing

What we think it is, what we are doing about it, and roughly how many sessions that usually takes.

  • Exercises with pictures, not a verbal list
  • A realistic number of sessions, with an end in sight
  • Discharge when you are done, and we will say when

Registered, insured, and clear about the limits

All treatment is by HCPC-registered physiotherapists, and every clinician’s registration number is on their profile and checkable on the HCPC register. Physiotherapy helps a great many problems and is the wrong answer for some. If yours is one of those, we will say so on the first visit.

Common questions

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You can book directly. If you are claiming on private insurance, your insurer may want a referral, so check with them first.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem and how long it has been there, and anyone who gives you a number before assessing you is guessing. We will give you an honest range on the first visit and revisit it as we go.

What should I wear?

Something you can move in. For a knee or a back, shorts help. There are gowns if you would rather.

Will it hurt?

Some hands-on treatment is uncomfortable while it happens. Nothing is done without telling you what it will feel like first, and you can stop at any point.

Can I claim on private insurance?

We can provide an itemised receipt for any insurer. Check your policy for whether you need pre-authorisation, because most do.

What if I need to cancel?

Twenty-four hours notice and there is no charge. Less than that and we ask for half the session fee, because the slot could have gone to someone else.

Been putting it off since it first twinged?

Most people wait months. The assessment takes forty-five minutes.
